The Supreme Court has questioned the police’s decision to file an unnatural death case in the murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College, Kolkata. Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, along with Justices JP Pardiwala and Manoj Mishra, reviewed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) report on the case.
During the hearing, senior advocate Kapil Sibal pointed out that the death certificate was issued at 1:47 pm, but the police filed the unnatural death case at 2:55 pm the next day. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta argued that the report was actually submitted at 11:30 pm on the same day.
The court asked for an explanation on why the police filed an unnatural death case. The Supreme Court has withheld further comments due to the ongoing investigation. The CBI has been asked to submit a new report by next Monday.
