RJD chief and former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav’s popularity has increased. The court named Tej Pratap Yadav, Lalu’s elder son, in the land-for-jobs corruption case, implicating him along with other family members. For the first time, the court issued a summons to Tej Pratap.
The Rose Avenue Court in Delhi will hold a hearing on the 7th of next month. The court summoned Lalu Yadav and eight family members to appear on that day.
The court ordered Lalu and his sons, Tejashwi Yadav and Tej Pratap Yadav, to appear as accused. Although the ED excluded Tej Pratap from its chargesheet, the court did not dismiss his involvement, leading to the summons.
The court cited enough evidence to proceed with the corruption case. It mentioned that Lalu Yadav, while in power, facilitated the transfer of large plots of land to his family’s name. The court also connected Lalu to a money laundering case and found sufficient evidence against Tejashwi Yadav.
The land-for-jobs corruption took place between 2004 and 2009, when Lalu Yadav served as Railway Minister. He exchanged Group D jobs for land from several individuals.
In 2004, several land plots were transferred to Rabri Devi, Tejashwi, and Tej Pratap Yadav. Lalu’s daughter, Misa Bharti, also received land transfers. Evidence shows that the families who transferred the land received jobs in return.
Last month, the court filed a supplementary chargesheet, naming 11 individuals. Three have passed away, while Lalu, Tejashwi, Misa Bharti, and Rabri Devi are still on the list. Now, Tej Pratap Yadav’s name has been added as well.
