Tensions Rise Between India and Canada Over Khalistani Terrorist Killing

Tensions between India and Canada have peaked over the killing of Khalistani terrorist Nizaar. As a result, New Delhi protested while Canada alleged, without evidence, that an Indian diplomat orchestrated Nizaar’s murder.

Furthermore, a Canadian minister specifically targeted India’s Minister of State Amit Shah, claiming he ordered the targeting of Khalistani terrorists in Canada. In response, India has strongly denied these accusations, leading to the summoning of a Canadian diplomat. Consequently, the Government of India branded the Canadian Minister’s statement as absurd and baseless.

On another front, David Morrison, Canada’s deputy minister of foreign affairs, informed the country’s Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security that Amit Shah had allegedly sanctioned violent propaganda, threats, and intelligence operations against Khalistani rebels. He claimed that Khalistani individuals faced targeting in Canada on Shah’s orders.

In light of this controversy, India’s Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal addressed the matter. He summoned the representative of the Canadian High Commission and handed over a diplomatic letter, strongly opposing the Canadian Minister’s statements.

Jaiswal stated, “The Government of India has lodged a strong diplomatic protest against the absurd and baseless allegations made by Deputy Minister David Morrison regarding our Minister of State. We have communicated this to Canada through a diplomatic note.”

Moreover, Morrison had previously mentioned Amit Shah’s name in an interview with the Washington Post, which subsequently reported on the allegations. In reaction, Jaiswal asserted that such incidents indicate Canadian officials deliberately leak false information to the media.

Ultimately, this incident threatens to have a detrimental impact on India-Canada relations. Jaiswal cautioned that serious consequences may arise from these developments.
