The ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) is experiencing internal conflict over the handling of the rape and murder case involving a female trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital. Rajya Sabha MP Sukhendu Shekhar Roy has called for the CBI to question Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal and former hospital principal Sandeep Ghosh, suggesting their detention is necessary for a thorough investigation. This call has faced opposition from within the party.
In a late-night post on X, Roy argued that the CBI must conduct an impartial investigation. He questioned why the wall of the hall where the body was discovered was demolished and why a sniffer dog was deployed three days after the incident. Roy emphasized the need to uncover who spread the false narrative of the female doctor’s death as a suicide post-rape and murder.

Earlier, Roy had supported and participated in a statewide protest by women on August 14, condemning the incident. He expressed unwavering support for the protest against the horrific case.
In contrast, senior TMC leader Kunal Ghosh has publicly opposed Roy’s demand. Ghosh, responding on X, argued that while he also seeks justice for the RG Kar case, he believes the Police Commissioner has been diligent and that such demands are counterproductive. He criticized Roy’s request as unfortunate and counter to the ongoing positive efforts in the investigation.
