A tourist van overturned en route to Gupteswar, resulting in a tragic accident in Kendughati, under Mohana Thana of Gajapati district. The mishap claimed the life of Sarojini Behera from Bhubaneswar, while 13 others sustained injuries.
Thirteen family members had set out for Gupteswar from Bhubaneswar and Niagara last night. Early this morning, their vehicle lost balance at a Kendughati bend near Mohana Thana Ramgarh and overturned.
The accident killed one woman on the spot and injured 13 passengers. Police rushed to the scene and admitted the injured to Mohana Hospital. Two critically injured individuals were later shifted to Brahmapur MKCG for advanced treatment. Meanwhile, the van driver fled the scene after the accident.
Kendughati Bulani has witnessed numerous accidents, leading to the loss of lives and property. Fifteen days ago, a Mahakala bus overturned in the same area, leaving several passengers injured.
With the tourist season underway, the road is expected to see heavy traffic, raising concerns about a potential rise in accidents. Locals are urging the administration to take immediate measures to ensure road safety.
