A snake bite injection was reportedly unavailable at the Tangi Family Health Centre, leading to the tragic death of 49-year-old Anusaya Maharana. Following accusations of negligence, the community expressed their outrage over the incident.
According to the family’s complaint, Anusaya was working in her backyard when a venomous snake bit her. They rushed her to the Tangi Family Health Centre, but upon arrival, they discovered that the hospital lacked the necessary snake bite injection. A step nurse instructed the family to procure the injection from an outside source. Tragically, by the time they returned with the injection, Anusaya had already passed away.
The incident sparked an uproar at the hospital, prompting a police presence to manage the situation. Sarpanch Praful Kumar Dash of Lada Pari stated that when Anusaya arrived at the hospital at 6:15 AM, no doctor or nurse was on duty. Hospital security initially attended to her, but the step nurse did not arrive until later. The delay in obtaining the snake bite injection ultimately contributed to her death.
Medical officer Satya Ranjan Nand claimed that the medical center typically has all necessary medicines and injections, adding that the investigation will determine whether the injection was available or if it had been taken out of the hospital.
