After winning the US presidential election, Donald Trump has sprung into action. He appointed Republican Representative Mike Walt as his national security adviser to strengthen his strategy against China.
The National Security Advisor plays a crucial role in directly advising the President. This position does not require Senate confirmation, allowing the President to fill it directly. In this role, Walt will provide Trump with information on key national security issues and coordinate with various government agencies.
The 50-year-old retired colonel co-chairs the India Caucus with Mike Walt. He has served in the Green Berets, a special unit of the US Army, and is known as a vocal critic of China. Trump’s decision to appoint Walt signals his intent to pursue a more aggressive foreign policy.
Mike Walt has represented the US House of Representatives since 2019. A staunch supporter of Trump, he also backed Trump’s efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. Walt has been one of the most vocal critics of President Joe Biden’s foreign policy.
In 2021, he criticized Biden over the US troop withdrawal from Afghanistan and called for support for Ukraine.
