A tragic road accident in Ganjam district this morning claimed four lives and left 20 others seriously injured. The accident occurred at Sambarjhob and Kanjuru streets under Hinjili police station when an oil tanker attempted to overtake a truck and collided head-on with a passenger bus.
The passenger bus, named ‘Khambeshwari,’ was traveling towards Brahmapur with over 40 passengers onboard. Meanwhile, the oil tanker was heading from Brahmapur to Aska. At Kanjuru Chhaka, the tanker tried to overtake a truck but lost control, crashing directly into the oncoming bus.
The impact pushed both vehicles into a roadside tea shop, killing three people who were drinking tea, along with one bus passenger. Over 20 bus passengers sustained serious injuries.
Upon receiving the distress call, police and fire brigade personnel quickly arrived at the scene. They rescued the injured and transported them to MKCG Medical Center in Berhampur. Authorities fear that more passengers may still be trapped inside the bus, and the death toll could rise.
