Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has invited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend a special Council of Heads of Government (CHG) meeting. The event is scheduled to take place on October 15-16, with Pakistan hosting the meeting this year as part of a rotational hosting arrangement among member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
Despite the invitation, the current strained relations between India and Pakistan make it unlikely that PM Modi will attend. It remains uncertain whether India will send any other representatives to the meeting.
The invitation comes in the wake of a recent strong statement by PM Modi on Kargil Vijay Diwas, where he accused Pakistan of failing to learn from history and continuing to engage in terrorism to stay in the headlines.
