Heavy Rains Cause Landslides in Andhra Pradesh, 8 Dead

Andhra Pradesh is experiencing heavy rains, which have forced people to stay indoors and brought traffic to a halt. Landslides in Vijayawada, caused by the torrential rains, have resulted in the death of eight people.

In the Mogalarajpuram area, landslides led to large rocks falling on a house, killing five people. Additionally, three people drowned in a car that was flooded by the rain.

Officials reported that the landslide caused part of a hill to collapse onto homes in the area. One house was completely destroyed, leading to the death of five residents. Three other houses were also badly damaged.

Police arrived quickly after receiving the news and started relief work. About 80 people were evacuated to safer locations. However, the heavy rain has slowed down rescue operations.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is monitoring the situation closely. Due to the severe weather, he canceled all his scheduled events on Saturday. He instructed officials to release ₹3 crore to each affected district for relief and rescue efforts.

The areas most affected by the heavy rains include Vijayawada, Machilipatnam, Gudivada, Kaikaluru, Narasapuram, Amaravati, Mylavaram, Nandigama, and Bhimavaram.
