News agency ANI has filed a defamation suit against Wikipedia. The news agency has said that Wikipedia wrote such information on its page, which referred to ANI as a ‘propaganda tool’ for the current government.
The Delhi High Court on Thursday issued a contempt notice to Wikipedia.
During the hearing, Justice Naveen Chawla strongly objected to the conduct of Wikipedia. He said, “I issue a contempt notice. The court said, if you do not like India, please do not work in India. We will ask the government to block Wikipedia in India.”
The court further asked why it did not follow the bench’s order, which said that it should provide information about those who have made changes in ANI’s page. Wikipedia argued in the court that its institution is not in India, so it will take time for its officials to appear in court. The court will now hear the case in October.
