A low-pressure system has intensified in the Bay of Bengal, causing rainfall in the west-central and northwest areas. The system is moving northwest and is expected to hit the Odisha-West Bengal coast soon. Forecasters predict that heavy rainfall will begin within the next 24 hours. The system is likely to bring significant rain to Odisha and West Bengal until September 11.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that Odisha will likely see heavy rain over the coming days. The IMD issued an orange warning for five districts—Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Malkangiri, and Koraput, expecting heavy to very heavy rain today.
The IMD also issued a yellow warning for Kendrapara, Khurda, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, and Nabarangpur districts, where thunderstorms and scattered rain are possible.
Authorities have urged residents to stay alert and monitor official updates as the weather conditions develop.
