India Monitors Suspected Monkeypox Case

The Central Health Department suspects a young man, who recently returned to India from abroad, has contracted monkeypox. After the youth showed symptoms, officials sent his sample for testing. His condition remains stable, and the Health Department will confirm if it’s monkeypox once test results are available.

On August 14, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared a health emergency in Mexico following the spread of monkeypox to 17 countries. In July, the WHO identified a new variant, ‘Clade 1B,’ leading to the emergency declaration.

Reports confirm that this new strain has appeared in countries such as Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda. In response, Indian health officials are conducting tests to check if the suspected patient is infected with any strain of monkeypox.
