Rahul Gandhi Faces BJP Backlash Over Sikh Comments in US

Rahul Gandhi, currently on a three-day visit to the US, has strongly criticized the BJP and RSS. During his trip, he has highlighted various issues with the Modi government. However, his recent remarks about Sikhs have sparked controversy and drawn sharp responses from the BJP.

In Virginia, Gandhi discussed the rights of Sikhs in India. He argued that the real issue is whether Sikhs can wear turbans, carry the Kada, and visit Gurudwaras freely. He framed this struggle as a fight for religious freedom, extending beyond politics.

The BJP has reacted strongly to Gandhi’s comments. They have challenged him to repeat his statements in India. If he does, they warned they would file a legal case against him. BJP leader RP Singh criticized Gandhi, pointing to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in Delhi, which occurred during Congress rule. Singh accused Gandhi of avoiding the historical facts and promised legal action if Gandhi repeats his comments in India.

Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also criticized Gandhi. He compared Gandhi’s approach to that of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who, according to Chouhan, never sought to damage the country’s image. Chouhan emphasized that Gandhi, as opposition leader, should handle his position with responsibility.

Gandhi’s comments have triggered a significant debate, highlighting ongoing tensions and the sensitivity of discussing religious and historical issues.
