Atishi has officially taken charge as the new Chief Minister of Delhi. On Monday, she arrived at the Secretariat and assumed her role, leaving Arvind Kejriwal’s seat empty. In her office, she has set up two chairs: one for herself and another next to Kejriwal’s, symbolizing her commitment to continue his work.
In her first remarks, Atishi declared her determination, stating that she shares the mindset of Bharat, who governed with Lord Rama’s legacy in mind. She pledged to serve as Chief Minister for the next four months with that spirit.
Atishi also targeted the BJP, accusing them of relentlessly attacking Kejriwal over the past two years. She pointed out that Kejriwal spent six months in jail, and the court acknowledged the malicious intent behind his arrest.
She expressed strong belief that the people of Delhi will re-elect Arvind Kejriwal as Chief Minister in the upcoming February elections. Atishi confirmed that Kejriwal’s chair will remain in her office until then.
Kejriwal resigned on September 17 after his arrest and subsequent release in the liquor corruption case. Following his resignation, Aam Aadmi Party MLAs elected Atishi as the new Chief Minister.
Looking ahead, the Delhi assembly elections are set for February 2025.
