The sand mafia has reportedly attacked mining officials during an inspection in Koraput town. The officials, who were checking for illegal mining, faced abuse and physical violence from the mafia members. One injured officer received treatment at the hospital but has since returned home after first aid.
Acting on a tip-off about the smuggling of six trucks and one tractor, Assistant Mining Officers and their team inspected the highway near the mining office this morning. During the inspection, they stopped the vehicles to check their road papers.
As the assistant mining officer conducted the checks, members of the sand mafia assaulted him and hurled insults. Witnessing the attack, other employees promptly called the police. Koraput Town police arrived on the scene, detaining the six vehicles and the tractor involved. They have filed a written complaint at the NY Town police station and are currently interrogating a suspect connected to the incident.
