Agra’s Women’s Safety: A Real-Time Assessment by ACP Sukunya Sharma

Dressed in simple clothes and posing as a common tourist, a senior woman police officer observed the night situation in Agra to assess women’s safety and the effectiveness of police services. ACP Sukunya Sharma wanted to determine if the emergency number 11 was available for women’s security and whether it provided nighttime service.

She first arrived at Agra Cantt railway station in plain clothes, introducing herself as an ordinary tourist. Late at night, she called the police for help, expressing her fear and seeking assistance. Without delay, the helpline operator responded promptly, guiding her to a safe location and confirming her address.

After gathering the necessary information, the operator reassured her to remain calm. Shortly after, the Women Patrolling Team called, informing her not to be afraid and assuring her that they were on their way to assist her. Overjoyed, she introduced herself to the patrolling team, stating that she wanted to evaluate whether essential services were functioning effectively. She felt satisfied with their response.

Subsequently, she hired an auto from the railway station to further check women’s safety. While waiting for her ride, she engaged the auto driver in conversation about safety measures. The driver mentioned that the police had already conducted checks, and he quickly donned his uniform to drive.

Later, the auto driver safely dropped ACP Sharma at her destination, successfully passing her test. Social activist Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj praised Sharma’s initiative, highlighting the appropriate steps taken for women’s safety. She emphasized that police should implement such measures in all cities to enhance security for women.
