The capital grows more restless day by day. Initially, people considered the night capital unsafe, but now even the beach market faces brazen acts of intimidation in broad daylight. Common residents live in fear, witnessing antisocial elements openly demanding large sums of money and issuing threats of violence. A particularly shocking incident recently unfolded near the Air Field Thana in Chandi Bazar.
In the afternoon, Raghunath Barik, a man recently released from jail, displayed alarming Dadagiri. He demanded five lakhs from a sweet shopkeeper, and when the shopkeeper couldn’t pay, Raghunath’s anger escalated. CCTV footage captured the chaos as he returned from prison, hauling stones in a cart, which he hurled in front of the sweet shop.
Acting on the evidence from the CCTV, the police swiftly apprehended Raghunath and took him into custody. He had threatened the sweet shopkeeper’s grandfather over the debt, and his rage culminated in property destruction. The grandfather warned that he would close the shop if the payment didn’t materialize.
After the police received a formal complaint at the airfield station, they initiated an investigation, meticulously reviewing the CCTV footage. As a result, they arrested Raghunath.
Additionally, Raghunath’s criminal history raises alarm. He previously served time for murdering a youth named Amaresh Nayak. This pattern of violence further underscores the growing sense of insecurity within the capital.
