BJD Leader Faces 24 Crore Fine: A Major Blow to Political Standing

The BJD leader has faced a significant setback, receiving a hefty fine of 24 crores and 21 lakh rupees. Authorities have taken strict action against him for excessive and illegal mining on forest land. This leader, Benudhar, serves as the chief of the area.

The mining department has enforced Section 163 of the BNSS, effectively shutting down the relevant mines due to the illegal activities in the Niagara Kasia Hills. Benudhar Pradhan, the BJD leader and vice-chairman of the Vapur block, held a lease for mining in the Kasia Hills but exceeded the permitted limits. He also engaged in illegal mining within forest areas.

Despite numerous complaints lodged against Benudhar over the years, authorities took no action while the BJJ remained in power. As the hills continued to degrade, concerns about wildlife safety and environmental balance grew. Nevertheless, Benudhar ignored these issues and persisted with illegal mining, reportedly colluding with officials from the mining and revenue departments.

On July 20, the media reported on the situation, prompting action from the new government. The mining department utilized advanced mapping technology from ORSAC in Bhubaneswar to assess the extent of the illegal activities. In response, Benudhar has approached the High Court, challenging the mining officials’ actions and expressing hope for justice.
