The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) discovered over 808 kg of cannabis in a fruit truck at the Andhra Pradesh-Odisha border in Krishnavaram while it was heading to Bhubaneswar. Authorities arrested three individuals, including the truck driver, and estimated the cannabis’s value at Rs 61 crore.
Receiving a tip-off, DRI agents set up an operation to intercept the smuggled marijuana coming from Andhra Pradesh. Last night, they stationed themselves at the border as the truck, escorted by a car, approached.
When the officials attempted to stop the vehicles, the truck and car sped away. The DRI agents pursued them, and the truck ultimately crashed into the Krishnavaram tollgate on the Andhra-Odisha border, causing the car to stop as well.
During their inspection of both vehicles, the officials uncovered numerous packets of marijuana. In total, they seized approximately 808.18 kg of cannabis. The DRI has confiscated both the truck and the car and is actively investigating the incident.
