After the abrogation of Article 370, Jammu and Kashmir held its first assembly elections in a decade, creating significant excitement across the Union Territory. The competition spans 90 seats; consequently, prominent leaders like Omar Abdullah, Rabindra Saini, and Iltiza Mufti actively participated.
Omar Abdullah has entered the fray from Ganderbal and Ladgam, strongholds of the National Conference where his family has deep roots. He currently leads with optimism about his chances of victory, as the electorate considers three generations of Abdullah leadership.
In a notable shift, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti has chosen not to run this time. Instead, her daughter has stepped in to contest the Srigufbara-Bijbehara seat. Meanwhile, Rabindra Saini, the BJP’s state president, is campaigning from the Naushora seat.
As counting began at 8 AM today, initial results showed Omar Abdullah and Rabindra Raina leading from their respective constituencies. At this point, the National Conference and Congress lead in 31 seats, while the BJP is ahead in 25.
Furthermore, Omar Abdullah emphasized that the majority would become clear by noon, insisting on the integrity of the vote counting process. He stated, “If the Janadesh goes against the BJP, they must accept it. We have worked diligently for our victory and remain hopeful.”
