Ratan Tata Passes Away, Day of Mourning Declared in Jharkhand and Maharashtra

Ratan Tata, India’s gem and prominent industrialist, has passed away. Jharkhand and Maharashtra governments have declared a day of mourning in his honor.

The Jharkhand government announced a holiday, closing all schools and colleges today. Tata shared a special bond with Jharkhand, as the Tata Group began its journey in Jamshedpur. Mumbai, Ratan Tata’s hometown, is also observing mourning. Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde both announced this day of remembrance.

In Maharashtra, the government will hoist the national flag on all public buildings, and no cultural or entertainment programs will take place today. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has ordered that Ratan Tata’s last rites be conducted with national dignity.
