Ratan Tata’s half-brother, Noel Tata, is emerging as the heir to his fortune, potentially inheriting assets worth ₹3,800 crore. Meanwhile, Ratan Tata’s younger brother, Jimmy Tata, remains outside the succession conversation.
While Ratan Tata embodied ambition and enterprise, Jimmy leads a contrasting lifestyle, preferring simplicity and avoiding the limelight. He resides in a modest 2-BHK apartment on the sixth floor of Hampton Court Apartments in Colaba, Mumbai. Despite his low-key lifestyle, it is said that he does not even own a mobile phone. Although he shuns technology, he stays informed through television and newspapers. Reports suggest he rarely leaves his home, but he is known to be a skilled squash player.
A few years ago, Ratan Tata shared a black-and-white photo with Jimmy on his birthday, reigniting interest in his brother’s life. In the caption, Ratan wrote, “It was a very happy day. There was no barrier between us (1945 with my brother Jimmy).”
Despite his simple lifestyle, Jimmy Tata holds significant shares in various Tata companies, including Tata Motors, Tata Steel, Tata Sons, TCS, Tata Power, Hotel Industries, and Tata Chemicals. Additionally, he serves as a trustee of the Sir Ratan Tata Trust.
