Maldives President Mohammed Muizzu expressed gratitude to India on Thursday for its continued financial assistance during his five-day visit to the Indian Ocean archipelago. This marked Muizzu’s first trip to India since taking office in 2023.
During his visit, President Muizzu held high-level meetings with President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and other senior Indian officials. They focused on strengthening the friendship and development partnership between Maldives and India.
The discussions included a comprehensive economic and maritime security partnership, according to the Maldives President’s Office. PM Modi and President Muizzu explored areas such as social housing, infrastructure development, agriculture and fisheries, trade and investment, human resource development, health care, women empowerment, renewable energy, and maritime security cooperation.
Additionally, President Muizzu and First Lady Sajida Mohammed visited Agra and held business meetings in Mumbai and Bengaluru. At business forums in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, Muizzu emphasized the Maldives’ significant potential for tourism enterprises and outlined opportunities for future collaboration.
Muizzu expressed appreciation for India’s financial support and extended invitations to Prime Minister Modi and President Murmu for state visits to the Maldives. Both nations reiterated their commitment to enhancing long-term relations and working towards mutual development and prosperity.
