Chief Justice DY Chandrachud Shares Prayer for Resolution in Ayodhya Case

Chief Justice DY Chandrachud prayed to God before hearing the highly controversial Ram Birthplace and Babri Masjid case. He shared, “I prayed to God to resolve the Ayodhya case,” reflecting on the much-discussed case from 2019.

He emphasized, “If there is faith in God, He must find a way,” while speaking at a program in his native Kanhersar village in Khedar, Maharashtra.

Chandrachud explained, “Typically, we face cases that cannot be resolved or finalized. This was the case with Ayodhya (the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute). Despite a three-month trial, we could not reach a final hearing. Eventually, I approached Thakur and pleaded for a solution.”

Ultimately, the case reached resolution. “Believe, if you have faith in God, He will show the way,” the Chief Justice stated.

On November 9, 2019, a five-judge bench of the Supreme Court, led by then Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, delivered the verdict on the Ayodhya Ram Temple construction. The court ordered the relocation of the Babri Masjid, built at Ram’s birthplace, and approved the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

This verdict marked a historic moment for billions of Indians, peacefully resolving the long-standing conflict between Hindus and Muslims. On January 22 of this year, the statue of Lord Ram was established in the Ayodhya Ram Temple.

Justice DY Chandrachud served on the five-member bench that issued this significant ruling and later became Chief Justice of India. His tenure will conclude on November 10.
