The state government is taking cautious measures in response to the potential cyclone ‘Dana,’ initiating preparations on a war-time basis. Chief Minister Mohan Majhi will review the storm situation today during a scheduled meeting.
At 4 pm, the Chief Minister will assess the possible storm response at Lok Seva Bhawan. Revenue Minister, Chief Secretary, and SRC Major will join the discussion. Earlier, district heads from affected areas received directives to submit their preparedness reports to the SRC. These officials will also participate in the meeting via video conferencing.
Additionally, the Chief Secretary convened an emergency meeting at 11 am to address the impending storm. This meeting took place at the SRC office and included the SRC and other senior officials. The Chief Minister will evaluate the storm situation later in the afternoon, focusing on minimizing damage and achieving zero casualties if the storm makes landfall.
A low-pressure area formed over the East Central Bay of Bengal this morning and is expected to develop into precipitation tomorrow, becoming a storm by the 23rd. Cyclone is likely to cross the Odisha-West Bengal coast on the morning of the 24th.
The state will experience heavy rain starting on the 23rd due to the possible storm, with heavy to very heavy rainfall predicted across most areas from the 23rd to the 25th.
The CMC Mayor has issued directives for managing the potential storm. Mayor Subas Singh has ordered CMC officials to remain at headquarters during this critical time.
He also stated that arrangements are underway to evacuate residents from 79 settlements to safer locations. Preparations are already in progress, including ensuring that pumpsets are ready for affected areas, and he warned that neglecting duty would lead to disciplinary action.
