A controversy has erupted over comments made by IAS officer Rakbala Martin regarding loudspeakers in temples. The ‘Save the Culture’ platform has warned of protests against Martin, highlighting mixed opinions about his social media posts.
Martin, a senior IAS officer from Madhya Pradesh, stated that loudspeakers in temples contribute to noise pollution and urged everyone to consider this issue from a religious perspective. He made these remarks following the tragic death of a 13-year-old minor who died while dancing to DJ music during a Durga idol immersion procession last week.
In response to a journalist’s post, Martin tweeted, “Noise pollution from loudspeakers in temples reaches many public places. Such music often plays late into the night. Chief Minister Mohan Jacobs took immediate action after taking office by removing loudspeakers from all places of worship and banning DJs.”
His tweet sparked a storm on social media. While some people supported him, others opposed his views. The ‘Save Culture’ platform emphasized that Martin intended no disrespect to Hindu sentiments and announced plans to protest against him.
Chandrasekhar Tiwari, head of ‘Save Culture’ Manch, stated, “If anyone attempts to hurt Hindu sentiments, the Culture Bachao Manch will oppose it. Temples do not chant Aarti and mantras five times a day on loudspeakers like Azaan. I question Rakbala Martin about the Maharam processions. Have you witnessed stone-pelting during those events? Yet, during Hindu processions, such actions occur.”
On the other hand, Congress spokesperson Abbas Hafeez expressed support for Martin, saying, “The IAS officer has raised a legitimate concern. The BJP government is taking action against loudspeakers based on religion, which is inappropriate.”
