Police have detained a logistics lane near MKC High School Street in Baripadar, Mayurbhanj District, on suspicion of GST evasion. The lane reportedly contains over 20 kg of gold. Authorities have also detained two employees of the company while they investigate the gold’s origins and its intended destination.
Last night, approximately 20 kg of gold bars arrived in the city from Kolkata via the logistics lane. The gold had flown into Kolkata from Mumbai and then travelled to Baripada town through Jaleswar.
A GST officer stationed near MKC High School Street, acting on a tip-off, was also detained by police while crossing the road at night.
Investigators discovered that the gold had reached various shops in Mayurbhanj district. They are currently verifying how much gold each shop received and whether they paid the necessary GST.
The police have sealed the vehicle and placed it under tight security at the police station. Additionally, the relevant gold shopkeepers have been summoned to the station. Once they arrive, authorities will open the seal, weigh the gold, and check the GST documentation.
