Odisha Introduces Fire Fighting Robotic Monitor to Tackle Blaze Challenges

A massive fire breaks out somewhere, destroying everything in its path. Reaching such places to put out the fire is a challenge for firefighters. Now, where firefighters can’t reach, a robot will – the Fire Fighting Robotic Monitor. Odisha is using this advanced robot to combat fires for the first time.

Today, on Odisha State Disaster Preparedness Day and National Disaster Reduction Day, a special program is taking place at the Odisha Fire and Disaster Management Institute. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi will attend as the chief guest, with Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari and the Chief Administrative Secretary also present.

To strengthen the fire department, 22 Fire Fighting Robotic Monitors are being inducted. During the program, Chief Minister Majhi will witness the robot’s fire-fighting skills.

When firefighters can’t reach intense fire areas, this latest-tech robot steps in, equipped to extinguish the blaze. Operated by a firefighter via remote control, the robot carries water, sprays it directly on flames, and stays cool under extreme heat.

Featuring a 360-degree camera, the robot includes both thermal and normal cameras: the normal camera checks for clear paths, while the thermal camera navigates through dense smoke. With a 1-km remote control range, it quickly reaches city fires while firefighters prepare to respond.

The robot’s effectiveness in reducing fire damage and controlling blazes will become clearer in the coming days.
