Nana Patole, the Maharashtra Congress President, has faced pressure following the party’s humiliating defeat in the Maharashtra Assembly elections. In response to the poor performance, Patole submitted his resignation letter to Congress President Mallikarjun Khadge, requesting to be relieved of his duties.
Patole has acknowledged his role in Congress’s disappointing performance and is expected to step down. Currently, he is in Delhi but has yet to meet Mallikarjun Khadge or Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi personally. Sources indicate that Patole has only met party General Secretary KC Venugopal so far.
However, the Congress high command has not yet accepted his resignation. Congress spokesperson Atul Londe has denied reports of Patole’s resignation, confirming that Patole remains in his position.
Meanwhile, the Mahayuti alliance triumphed in the Maharashtra Assembly elections with a landslide victory, securing 232 out of 288 seats. In contrast, the Mahavikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, comprising Congress, faced a crushing defeat, winning only 46 seats. Congress, contesting 101 seats, secured just 16 seats with 12.42% of the vote.
