The Patna High Court has acquitted former Mokama MLA Anant Singh in the high-profile AK-47 case. This decision marks a major relief for Singh, who has been in judicial custody since August 25, 2019.
Singh’s acquittal comes after a lengthy trial in which the civil court had initially sentenced him to ten years in prison. The High Court’s ruling, which was based on insufficient evidence, paves the way for Singh’s release from jail. The decision has been met with jubilation among his supporters.

The case, categorized as special by the Bihar government, saw a speedy trial. On October 15, 2020, charges were framed against Singh and his caretaker. The prosecution presented 13 police witnesses, while 34 witnesses were called by the defense. The investigation was led by Lipi Singh, the then ASP of Barh subdivision, who filed the charge sheet on November 5, 2019. Singh’s release is expected to be finalized as soon as the necessary paperwork is completed, potentially as early as tomorrow.
