Andhra Pradesh Sinks: Floods Claim 31 Lives

Flood warnings have been issued in Andhra Pradesh, where scenes of devastation continue to unfold: a railway station has sunk, tracks have washed away, and trucks and cars float in floodwaters. Moreover, over 5 feet of water has cut off roads, leaving Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in a state of crisis.

So far, heavy rains and floods have claimed 31 lives . 16 in Telangana and 15 in Andhra Pradesh. Furthermore, with several people still missing, the death toll is expected to rise.

The floodwaters have impacted approximately 4.5 lakh people in Andhra Pradesh. In Vijayawada, residents are struggling to access essential commodities, including milk, as traffic has ground to a halt. Consequently, the situation is becoming increasingly dire, with people facing severe hardships.

Additionally, floods have wreaked havoc on railways and roads, especially in Andhra Pradesh. Collapsed tracks and damaged bridges have disrupted train services to Odisha and other parts of the country. As a result, authorities have canceled 432 trains.

Rayanpadu station near Vijayawada has been completely isolated, with the entire station submerged. Multiple trains remain stranded. In response, rescue teams, including the Air Force, NDRF, and SDRF, are working tirelessly to evacuate people and deliver food, water, and medicines. Moreover, floodwaters have submerged thousands of hectares of agricultural land in Vijayawada, NTR, and Guntur districts.

Furthermore, the Krishna and Budameru rivers, now swollen with floodwaters, pose a significant threat to surrounding areas. This year’s heavy post-monsoon rains have exacerbated the situation, causing widespread flooding.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has contacted Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, offering full support from the central government as rescue efforts continue.
