Arvind Kejriwal, Aam Aadmi Party chief, plans to resign as Delhi’s Chief Minister today. He will meet Deputy Governor VK Saxena and submit his resignation letter. He also intends to vacate the official Chief Minister’s bungalow at Civil Lines within weeks of his resignation.
Kejriwal, along with his wife Suniya Kejriwal, their child, and his parents, currently live in the bungalow. After his resignation, he will need to leave the residence, and preparations for vacating the property are already underway.
Sources quoted in an Indian Express report revealed that the party expects the new Chief Minister to move into the Civil Lines residence soon. This bungalow has faced controversies, as the BJP questioned the expenditure on its renovation in 2020-21, citing financial irregularities.
Following his release from jail on Friday, after his arrest in the Delhi liquor scam case, Kejriwal addressed party workers on Sunday. He surprised everyone by announcing his decision to resign from the post of Chief Minister within 48 hours.
Kejriwal stated that he seeks to go to the people’s court to prove his innocence, as the case may take time to resolve. He further mentioned that he will not return to the Chief Minister’s chair unless re-elected by the people.
