BHEL’s Defence and Aerospace Department in Haridwar has produced the Super Rapid Gun Mount (SRGM) for the Indian Navy. This gun can hit air, water, and sea targets within a 35 km range and selects suitable ammunition based on the target.
Executive Director DS Murali flagged off the gun for Balasore, Odisha, on Friday. He noted its vital role in securing India’s maritime borders. This is the first of 38 upgraded SRGM guns ordered by the Navy, with 37 more to follow.
BHEL has been making SRGM guns for the Navy for 30 years, supplying 44 so far. The flag-off ceremony saw attendance from BHEL officials, Navy representatives, partner Leonardo, and the BHEL Union and Association.
