Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation has issued a warning to the residents of Bhubaneswar following a bird flu outbreak in the suburbs. Poultry traders in the capital have received instructions not to bring chickens from the affected areas. In the event of any chickens dying unnaturally, BMC has directed that they be buried and covered with bleaching powder. Residents who experience fever, sneezing, or coughing after contact with chickens should consult a doctor immediately.
Bhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das has advised residents to avoid eating chicken for the time being due to the bird flu spread in the surrounding areas. She confirmed that BMC has implemented measures to curb the outbreak, including prohibiting the import of chickens from infected zones.
The bird flu situation has escalated in the Puri district, where over 30,000 chickens have died from the virus. The Animal Husbandry Department has recommended a halt to poultry farming for the next six months. Farm owners are expressing concern over this development.
