The BJP has secured its first seat in Jammu and Kashmir with candidate Darshan Kumar’s victory. By winning the Assembly constituency of Basohli, Kumar has officially opened the BJP’s account in the Union Territory.
Darshan Kumar triumphed over National Conference candidate Lal Singh, defeating him by a substantial margin of 31,874 votes. Lal Singh received 15,840 votes in total.
This marks the first assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir following the abrogation of Article 370, with elections held across 90 seats. In the initial trends, the National Conference leads in the Union Territory, while the Congress-Nationalist Alliance tops 51 assembly seats.
Currently, the Bharatiya Janata Party leads in 27 seats, the PDP in 2 seats, and other parties occupy 8 seats. Analysts expect a clearer picture of potential government formation by this afternoon, with reports suggesting the possibility of an NC-led government in Jammu and Kashmir.
