Priyanka Gandhi Vadra filed her nomination papers for the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala yesterday. However, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge stood outside the room at that time. BJP accused Congress of not letting him enter and demanded the door be opened. They also shared a video of the incident, sparking controversy and drawing a strong response from Congress.
In the video shared by BJP, Priyanka is inside the District Collector’s office while Kharge waits outside the door. BJP posted this video, claiming it was “an insult to an oppressed leader.” They criticized Priyanka for submitting her nomination with her family while leaving the party president outside, calling it shameful.
BJP leader and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma accused Congress of reducing the AICC and PCC presidents to mere rubber stamps for the Gandhi family.
Meanwhile, former minister and senior BJP Karnataka leader questioned Kharge’s absence during Priyanka’s nomination process, stating, “Sonia Gandhi’s dignity and honor are being sacrificed on the altar of pride and entitlement. If they treat senior Dalit leaders and party presidents like this, imagine how they’ll treat the people of Wayanad.
“As the controversy escalated, Congress responded. Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate rejected BJP’s claims, accusing them of spreading lies. She explained that only five people were allowed in the room during the nomination. When Priyanka entered, three party workers were already inside, so Kharge and others entered when they exited.
She further clarified that Rahul Gandhi and Kharge sat in the front seat with Priyanka during the nomination process, while Sonia Gandhi sat in the back seat, even though she is Priyanka’s mother.
