Bus Carrying Shia Pilgrims Overturns in Iran

A tragic accident occurred late Tuesday night in Yazd, Iran, when a bus carrying Shia pilgrims from Pakistan overturned, resulting in the deaths of 35 individuals. Eighteen others sustained injuries and have been admitted to local hospitals for treatment.

The bus, which had 53 passengers on board, was transporting devotees from Larkana in Pakistan’s Sindh province to Iraq for the Arba’in pilgrimage. The ceremony commemorates the 40th anniversary of the martyrdom of a Shiite saint from the 7th century.

Iranian emergency official Mohammad Ali Malekzadeh reported that many of the injured remain in critical condition. Initial investigations suggest that brake failure might have caused the bus to overturn. The accident took place in central Iran, and authorities are still determining the exact cause.

This incident has highlighted the dangers of road travel, particularly during high-volume pilgrimage periods. The local community and officials continue to respond to the aftermath of this devastating event.
