During the Joint Parliamentary Committee meeting today regarding the Waqf Bill, confusion erupted as BJP and TMC members clashed. TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee grew angry during the discussions and smashed a nearby glass bottle, resulting in a serious injury to his hand.
The meeting took place on the Parliament premises and included numerous retired judges, legal experts, and intellectuals who expressed their views. However, tensions rose when Kalyan Banerjee stood up and attempted to speak. The chairman interrupted him, stating that he had already voiced his concerns multiple times.
In response, BJP MP Abhijit Gangopadhyay objected, leading to a heated exchange between him and Banerjee. Amid the altercation, Banerjee threw the glass bottle to the ground in frustration, which ultimately led to his injury. He required four stitches and was promptly taken to the hospital for treatment.
Following this incident, the meeting adjourned temporarily. Moreover, opposition MPs filed allegations against the BJP, with TMC members claiming that Gangopadhyay used offensive language during the confrontation.
