Chief Minister Majhi to Review Flood Impact in Malkangiri

Heavy rains have hit Malkangiri district, a tribal area, for the past three days. While the flood situation has slightly improved, residents are still struggling. Floodwaters have washed away roads, cutting off access to many areas.

Today, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi will visit Malkangiri to see the damage firsthand. He is expected to arrive at 3 PM and will then conduct an aerial survey of the affected areas, including Valjegar. Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari will join him.

After the aerial survey, Chief Minister Majhi will lead a review meeting to tackle the flood crisis. Senior officials, such as the Malkangiri District Collector, Upazilapal, and SP, will attend. The Chief Minister will likely instruct them to quickly assess the damage and speed up compensation for those affected.

The floods have destroyed homes and submerged roads, leaving parts of Malkangiri disconnected. In response, six rescue teams and five fire teams have evacuated about 1,700 people to safety.

As floodwaters, which reached up to 10 feet along National Highway No. 326, start to recede, traffic and daily life are slowly returning to normal. However, roads linking Malkangiri with Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Chhattisgarh are still cut off due to high water levels.

Since Malkangiri often faces flooding issues, partly because of slow new bridge construction, Chief Minister Majhi is expected to push for faster completion of these projects. This move aims to reduce future flood risks and improve disaster management.
