Controversy erupts over a religious WhatsApp group formed by IAS officers in Kerala, prompting an investigation into the shocking incident. Two groups emerged based on religion: one called “Mallu Hindus,” consisting solely of Hindu IAS officers, and the other named “Mallu Muslims.” Authorities deleted both groups following public outcry.
The situation escalated after IAS officer K. Gopalakrishnan reported a hack of his mobile phone. Reports indicate that someone created the controversial WhatsApp group on Diwali, October 31, adding numerous Kerala cadre IAS officers to the “Mallu Hindu Officers” group. Many officials condemned the action, labelling it inappropriate and contrary to secular principles.
Following Gopalakrishnan’s complaint, police launched an investigation into the matter. Despite ongoing inquiries, the controversy surrounding the WhatsApp group remains unresolved. Gopalakrishnan asserted that someone used his phone’s contact list without his permission to create the group, further complicating the situation.
