The Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre has reported that a deep depression, formed in the West Central and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal, is currently moving northwest at a speed of 7 km per hour. It is centered 110 km away from Puri and is expected to cross the Puri coast by noon today.
Under its influence, coastal Odisha is likely to experience strong winds of 40 to 60 kmph, along with widespread rainfall. Heavy rain is predicted to continue in the state until the 11th of this month, according to the Meteorological Centre.
A red alert has been issued for five districts: Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda, and Dhenkanal. These areas could receive up to 20 cm of rainfall. Additionally, 12 districts are under an orange warning for heavy to very heavy rain, while 13 other districts have been placed under a yellow warning.
In light of the severe weather, authorities have prohibited fishermen from venturing into the sea until the 11th. Dhamra, Paradip, Puri, and Gopalpur Ports have been issued the third danger signal.
