Satyendra Jain, the former Health Minister of Delhi, has secured bail after spending 28 months in custody. The Rose Avenue Court in Delhi granted the bail, stressing the importance of a speedy trial—a principle previously upheld by the Supreme Court in cases involving AAP leaders like Manish Sisodia.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Jain on May 30, 2022, over allegations of money laundering linked to four companies associated with him. Despite several bail applications since his arrest, he faced repeated denials until this recent ruling.
In its decision, the court emphasized the significance of individual privacy, particularly under stringent laws such as the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Although the ED opposed Jain’s bail, the court pointed out that his lengthy detention made it unlikely for the trial to commence soon.
Jain received bail on a personal bond of ₹50,000. While released, he cannot contact witnesses or individuals involved in the case and must obtain court permission for any international travel.
