Supply Minister Krishnachandra Pan inaugurated the Dhan Mandi today in Bargarh, marking the start of the Kharif paddy collection process in the state. This year, the Mohan Majhi government has put in place comprehensive measures to prevent crop-cutting issues, ensuring farmers will receive Rs 3100 per quintal for their paddy. The state has also sealed borders to curb the black marketing of grain.
The Supply Minister initiated the grain collection process at three locations, including Bargarh and Atabira. Starting tomorrow, the government will extend the paddy purchasing process to other districts.
Minister Krishnachandra Pot declared that today is a day of celebration for farmers, with Bargarh—Odisha’s rice hub—being the first to open the market. He emphasized that his government fulfilled its promise, implementing border seals, CCTV installations, and patrolling to prevent foreign grain from entering the state.
Union Minister Pradeep Balasamant assured that food and toilets were arranged for farmers at the market, while also highlighting measures against grain smuggling. BJP workers are on alert in all districts to ensure proper monitoring.
Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari stated that strict surveillance will prevent the black marketing of grain, with appointed officers overseeing the purchase and sale process. Patrolling will prevent brokers from entering the mandi’s, and a focus will be placed on providing Rs 800 in subsidies.
