The Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided Sandeep Ghosh’s farmhouse, the former principal of Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital, early this morning, following charges of financial irregularities. Moreover, ED officers entered his property, further advancing the investigation.
In addition, an ED team also raided the house and nursing home of TMC MLA Sudipta Roy in North Kolkata. Sudipta Roy, the MLA from Srirampur and Chairman of the West Bengal Health Recruitment Board, had earlier led the Patient Welfare Association at RG Kar Hospital.
A few days prior, the CBI had already raided Sudipta Roy’s home and nearby nursing home, as part of an investigation into the RG Kar Hospital case involving the murder of a junior doctor. Now, the ED has launched its probe into corruption allegations connected to this case.
Furthermore, the murder of the junior doctor at RG Kar Hospital has drawn significant public attention to the institution. The ED is now investigating corruption charges within RG Kar College. Investigators reported that Sandeep Ghosh held the principal position, while his wife, Musika Ghosh, worked as an assistant professor at the same college.
In 2021, Sandeep Ghosh approved his wife’s property purchase, which triggered suspicion. During the raid, ED officials seized several incriminating documents and tools. The ED claims that the evidence clearly suggests Sandeep Ghosh amassed assets worth crores through corrupt practices.
On September 15, authorities took Sandeep Ghosh and Abhijit Mandal, a Tala Police Station officer, into CBI custody for three days. Subsequently, investigators arrested both on Saturday for their roles in the murder of a female doctor.
