Family of Accused Speak Out: “We Lost Contact Years Ago”

The shooting death of NCP leader Baba Siddiqui in Mumbai has ignited widespread outrage across the country. The police arrest two suspects, identify two more, and pursue further leads in connection with the incident, which occurs near his son’s office in Bandra on Saturday evening.

The police capture Dharmaraj Rajesh Kashyap and Gurmail Bajaljit Singh, but a third suspect, Shivkumar alias Shiv Gautam, remains at large. Additionally, Mohammed Jasin Akhtar, linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, emerges as the fourth accused.

On the evening of the incident, Dharmaraj, Shiv, and Gurmail approach Baba Siddiqui’s son Jeeshan’s office. During this encounter, someone shoots Baba Siddiqui, despite the assailants initially planning to use a smoke spray. The quick actions of Siddiqui’s bodyguards lead to the capture of Dharmaraj and Gurmail, while Shiv manages to flee the scene.

Gurmail possesses a documented criminal history, having faced arrest in 2019 for murder but receiving bail. His family claims they lose contact with him at age 11. His maternal grandmother states that he recently exits jail and spends little time at home before disappearing again.

In contrast, Dharmaraj and Shiv Kumar lack prior criminal records. According to their families, both travel to Maharashtra for work opportunities, with Dharmaraj last returning home during Holi.

The police actively seek Mohammed Jasin Akhtar, who helps facilitate the attack. Akhtar, a resident of Jalandhar, faces multiple charges and recently gains release from jail, where he allegedly connects with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The gang claims responsibility for Siddiqui’s murder.
