In a tragic incident stemming from rivalry over the Pradhani election, villagers shot and killed farmer Chhannu Yadav, also known as Bhagatji, in the village of Jajra. After an argument escalated, Chhannu attempted to flee but sustained gunshot wounds. Authorities discovered his body on his running tractor the next morning, indicating he had tried to escape but was unable to do so due to his injuries.
Chhannu, aged 50 and unmarried, was the eldest of five brothers and well-regarded in the village. On the night of the incident, he had told his family he would work in the fields. After his brother Bhure returned home, Chhannu remained in the tube well room.
The following morning, Chhannu’s brother Dharampal observed several villagers fleeing the scene and found Chhannu bloodied on the tractor. The police later determined that Chhannu died from hemorrhage caused by a bullet wound in his leg. An FIR has been registered against ten suspects involved in the incident.
Investigations uncovered blood stains in the tube well room, suggesting the assault began there before Chhannu attempted to escape. Additionally, the police retrieved call records from Chhannu’s mobile phone, which he used to contact his brothers shortly before the attack.
Law enforcement continues to pursue the suspects named in the FIR and is thoroughly examining the timeline of events leading to Chhannu’s death.
