A serious complaint has emerged against a Superintendent of Police (SP) in Haryana’s Jind district. A female police officer has filed a sexual harassment complaint against SP Sumit Kumar, leading to his transfer for an independent investigation.
The incident gained attention after a letter from the woman police officer to Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini went viral. In her letter, she accused SP Sumit Kumar of sexual harassment and claimed that two senior women police officers were complicit in the case. She alleged that these officers pressured her by suggesting that she would receive further promotions if she supported the SP’s claims.
The viral nature of the letter sparked widespread outrage across the state. In response, the Haryana Women’s Commission urged the Chief Minister to transfer the SP to facilitate an independent investigation while also launching their inquiry. The commission has requested the SP to present his side of the story.
During his appearance before the Women’s Commission, SP Sumit Kumar defended himself, claiming that the allegations were part of a deliberate conspiracy against him. He pointed out that the letter was circulated from a mail account that was deleted shortly after, emphasizing, “I have never received such a complaint in my 20-year career.” He requested the commission to investigate his character and suggested that they question the female officer who worked with him.
