Police arrested four individuals for running over five devotees, including a woman, with a Thar SUV at the Chhadi Mela in Shahbazpur Dor village on the Delhi-Lucknow National Highway. They seized the vehicle and recovered a sharp weapon (gadasa). A video of the incident went viral on social media.
The incident occurred around 6 p.m. on Sunday during the Chhadi fair, where villagers from nearby areas had gathered. The injured, including Jitendra, Sachin, Rajesh, Rahul, and Kamala Devi, all from Shahbazpur Dor village, suffered injuries when a speeding Thar SUV lost control and hit them.
This incident mirrors a similar one in Lakhimpur, UP, where a contractor’s son ran over people at a fair. The Thar’s occupants sparked chaos and ran over villagers after a confrontation, leaving many seriously injured.
Witnesses reported a fight breaking out when villagers protested the reckless driving. They accused the driver of carelessness. Police arrived at the scene shortly after.
Ompal Singh Rana, the brother of the injured Rajesh, filed a complaint that led to an FIR against Hrithik, the Thar’s driver. Hrithik’s brother Dipanshu, along with Shivam and their uncle Rakesh Thekedar, were also in the vehicle.
Footage of the incident shows the Thar hitting villagers. Some attempted to vandalize the SUV as it fled the scene.
