The Uttar Pradesh Police has cracked down on a honeytrap gang that lured victims into traps, abducted them, and demanded ransom from their families. Officers arrested three suspects, including a woman who operated the scheme and rescued a 50-year-old man from their captivity.
The man, from Lalitpur, had fallen into a love trap set by a woman he met over the phone. She expressed her affection for him and later invited him to meet her in Jhansi. Trusting her intentions, the man travelled to Jhansi, unaware he was about to be abducted.
Upon arriving, the woman and her accomplices seized him, holding him captive and assaulting him for two days. On the third day, the gang demanded Rs 3 lakh from his family for his release. His son immediately sought police help, enabling officers to devise a successful rescue plan.
In response to the complaint, the police formed four teams and crafted a plan. A police officer posed as the victim’s son, contacting the kidnappers under the pretence of delivering the ransom. Insisting he wanted to see his father first, he convinced the gang to lead him to the victim’s location. There, the police surrounded the hideout and conducted a raid, successfully arresting the suspects and freeing the victim.
During interrogation, the suspects confessed to their operations, revealing the honeytrap gang’s tactics. The gang used several women to lure victims, who were then abducted upon meeting and ransomed. Superintendent Muhammad Mushtaq has sent the accused to jail, while police continue efforts to apprehend other members of the gang.
